Citizens for Responsible Growth of Snohomish County |
Who and What is CRG? Citizens for Responsible Growth is a non-profit corporation organized to educate the community about local growth issues, promote the protection of the environment and its resources and to promote the sense of community in the greater Lake Stevens and Snohomish area. What has CRG done? The community groups that have come together with the help and organization of CRG have helped our community by: -Winning an appeal of commercial zoning on Cavalero Hill which saved the taxpayers millions in road costs alone. (This is the land purchased by the county for a park) -Educating and keeping the community informed. -Ensuring that accurate information is shared with citizens. -Ensuring public participation in important governmental decisions that affect our community. -Notifying the community of hearings. -Working for affordable land use solutions. -Networking and forming partnerships with other groups in the Lakes Stevens/Snohomish area and throughout the county to better address local and countywide issues. -Sponsoring candidate forums. Why CRG? Traffic got you down? You are not imagining things when it seems like it takes longer to get places. East Hewitt Avenue is one of the most congested roads in the County. There are laws that require that development not be allowed when traffic reaches a certain congestion level. The County promised to honor those laws at community meetings in 1998. We want to make sure those promises are kept. Taxes going up? The data is clear. Rapidly growing communities around the country pay higher taxes AND have lower levels of services. It is plain and simple: GROWTH COSTS MONEY. Some argue that commercial development can "pay for" all of the growth. We've done the numbers for our area, and major cities have conducted studies - development does not 'pay for itself'. We know who will pay for growth. WE ALL WILL! Feel there is nothing you can do? YOU CAN DO SOMETHING! Support CRG! By supporting CRG your donation will:: -Support community education and involvement in environmental and growth issues. -Support a grass roots effort to make sure our community knows what growth will cost us. -Support a grass roots effort to make sure we can afford what is planned for the future. -Support hiring experts (traffic engineers and lawyers) to make sure that good data is collected and that state and local laws are being followed. -Support intermittent newsletters to keep our community informed. (Old newsletters can be viewed on our website) -Support efforts to create a quality community that we and our children and their children will be able to enjoy for years to come. IS THE CONTRIBUTION TAX DEDUCTIBLE? Yes. CRG has federal non-profit status. Yearly membership is $15 ($10 for seniors) but additional donations are welcome! All donations and membership fees are tax deductible. Donations may be sent to: CRG, c/o 7709 28th St. SE, Everett, Wa 98205 All time is volunteered.
